Painted Oceanic paints animals nobody owns, and that is the whole difference. A pet portrait is a picture of a relationship. This is a picture of an encounter—the morning you were close enough, the light was right, and the animal looked back.

Most of what we are sent was shot through glass, through a fence, or at four hundred millimetres from a moving boat. We built the studio around those photographs rather than around studio conditions. The engines are tuned to hold one individual animal—this leopard’s rosettes, this otter’s scarred lip—instead of swapping in a handsome member of the species.

We will tell you when a photograph won’t carry. That costs us the sale sometimes, and we would rather lose it than send back a painting of some other animal wearing your memory.

Everything is rendered before you pay: three variations, watermarked, from one photograph. You approve one or you walk away owing nothing. That is the only promise worth making about a picture neither of us has seen yet.

We are a family of artists, passionate about the act of creation. Some of us have been creating for seventy years. We recognize that times change, so we decided to embrace them: the speed of creating art has accelerated, and ideas become reality in days or weeks rather than months or years.

This studio began with a realization—nearly all of the AI art we see doesn’t inspire us—and with the idea that we could build something better. If we are successful, the oil paintings we create in our own studio can hang in our own homes and don’t need to be advertised to support our family.
